Period rooms can be deadly dull! Not so this. Looking from the limestone floored foyer with its museum-quality George III desk, a viewer can't help but relish the rich intimacy of the pink-hued dining space.
What makes this room work? A discrete combination of very old and very new. This room is about luxurious basics starting with its sumptuous tea rose colored silk curtains which plunge straight to the floor from the simplest thin painted rods - not a swag or jabot in sight! Grounding the room is an extraordinary antique Caucasian rug. The dining table is period (Georgian) and the accessories are a wonderful mix of family heirloom, future heirlooms (the works of Viscount Linley), and discoveries from the famed London Silver Vault. Dining chairs are rich with detail. Not a large space but certainly, by any definition, grand. |
