Yes, we all know that “first impressions count” – but… doesn’t this foyer do that “in spades?” The inlaid commode is exemplary Louis Philippe (ex. Marston Luce). The flanking chairs: 18th Century Italian pear wood, marvelously painted with gilt accents and chairs upholstered in kid leather. Above all (literally) is a series of six beautifully framed original edition Piranesi engravings of ancient Rome, framed by Susan Calloway. [Can you imagine the experience of sitting down and selecting your favorite views of Rome from an unbroken “First Edition Book” of 18th Century engravings – over a very good glass of wine?] |
