All too often little attention is paid to the entries in many modern homes. Either they are grand empty spaces or merely utilitarian passageways. That's too bad. However humble or grand, an entry "foyer" is the first impression of our homes and lives glimpsed by most visitors, as well as the last. Our redesign of the entry foyer to this Georgetown town house transformed what had been a dark, uninviting passage into a dramatic yet welcoming entrance. We paired kidskin upholstered antique Venetian chairs with s travertine topped console and gold washed mirror. Floors are bare -- the better to highlight the original 1820s floorboards. Furniture and accessories enhance the sense of ease, warmth and quiet luxury. |
