We were invited to develop a showhouse "game" room by the Washington Design Center. Our response - a room dedicated to games people play.

House Beautiful, the sponsor, dictated a theme of "Color". We took that as a challenge. This room is all about color, texture and light. Color doesn't have to be loud. Neutral interiors are presumed to be bland. Not this. Mulberry paper walls, a spectacular Gene Davis color field painting (gray, pink, yellow), and a Stark diamond patterned sisal carpet hint at subtle sophistication. The sofa, an original Billy Baldwin rescued from the sidewalk outside a wonderful Georgetown manse, was reborn with a Cowtan & Tout Linen, and amplified by a parade of lustrous silk pillows. The game table - a '40s Baker original - revels in its new skin of J. Robert Scott "Superkidskin." An antique French chair, with original paint, is the perfect foil for a steel and glass etagere, another "vintage" Baldwin.
