Life (as we see it) is about the small things - the details. Details are our design mantra, the best device by which to elevate interior design and architecture from routine to sublime. We believe each element of a room must mesh, must contribute to the greater whole. That does not mean they must match.
We start with the details of the client's lifestyle, their vision of how they want to live, and then build up layer after layer of supporting detail. To this we apply our technical knowledge and expertise.
Good design is about taste and style, rather than ostentation. One device for accomplishing this is to mix simple and rare objects. This breathes life into a room. This photograph is supporting documentation for our approach: a wonderful assemblage of objects of great intrinsic as well as personal value to the owners. A portion of their wonderful collection of Meiji and Edo period Japanese sterling silver and bronze articulated insect models sit next to a pile of sun-bleached starfish and a 17th century engraving, on a bed-side table. Not the answer for every lifestyle, but for these discerning clients it was exactly the way they wanted to start each day - with a view of a few of their favorite things. |
